Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
Four Queensland businesses are in the running for the national 2006 Telstra Business Awards which will be announced this Saturday night (September 23) in Sydney.
Premier Peter Beattie said Medimobile Pty Ltd, Wesley Corporate Health, Microskin International Pty Ltd and Entitled Clothing Company are showcasing Queensland’s business acumen on the national stage.
“Queensland is driving the nation’s economy and our businesses are responsible for that – pioneering new developments, developing innovative solutions and taking the Smart State’s goods and services across the country and around the world,” Mr Beattie said.
“Congratulations must go to all four of the Queensland finalists because each one is making a valuable contribution to this effort.
“The Smart State is proud of you.”
QUEENLSAND FINALISTS:
Medimobile Pty Ltd (Spring Hill) provides businesses with a mobile influenza vaccination service, helping to reduce absenteeism in the workplace. Based in Brisbane, Medimobile’s national network of doctors provides vaccinations to companies throughout Australia including BHP Billiton, Clayton Utz and Universal Pictures. In three years, Medimobile has become the second largest onsite workplace vaccination company with 22 staff and 150 contracted doctors.
Wesley Corporate Health (Milton) is a corporate health provider specialising in research-based, medically-supervised programs in executive health, workplace health, weight management, and injury prevention and rehabilitation. Founded in 1990, the business has worked with more than 700 private and public organisations to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees. The business currently has four locations in Queensland and provides services for individual clients as well as the corporate market.
Microskin International Pty Ltd (Wavell Heights) was formed in 2005 to help improve the confidence of skin condition sufferers. Applied topically over an affected area, Microskin International reduces the appearance of burns, scars, birthmarks and any other skin discolouration by creating a “simulated secondary skin”. The business has been involved in a clinical trial at the Royal Brisbane Hospital Burns Unit.
Entitled Clothing Company (Moorooka) designs and manufactures signature women’s fashion in sizes 8-32. The business has grown from one woman based in Moorooka Brisbane, to a national company with over 25 stylists. It now services thousands of women directly in their own homes. Entitled Clothing Company is party plan-based and offers women the chance to build and run a successful small business through servicing a niche market.
