Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
As a mark of respect to Steve Irwin and his family, flags will be flown at half-mast across Queensland on Wednesday September 20.
“I am very pleased that Terri Irwin and the family accepted our offer of this small sign of our State’s respect for Steve Irwin and his many achievements,” Premier Peter Beattie said.
The Premier has urged families with tickets to the memorial service at Australia Zoo to take advantage of free train and bus travel to Beerwah.
Queensland Rail will provide two extra Citytrain services on Wednesday morning between Brisbane and Beerwah.
“The first of the extra services will depart Central Station on Wednesday morning at 6.07am and is due to arrive at Beerwah Station at 7.15,” the Premier said.
“The second service will leave Central at 6.37am and will arrive at Beerwah at 8.17am.
“People using train services to Beerwah (including regular services) will be shuttled from Beerwah Station to the Zoo from 7am – and a return shuttle service will run until 3.15pm,” he said.
The Premier also appealed to people who did not have a ticket to the ceremony at the Zoo to take advantage of the live sites being set up across the State.
“Southbank and local councils across Queensland are providing large screens to allow people to come together to watch the live broadcast of Wednesday’s service from 9am.
“I know many people will want to be with others to watch the ceremony and I would urge them to take advantage of the screens,” Mr Beattie said.
Live broadcasts of the service will be available at:
