PREMIER ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS

The Honourable Peter Beattie
Premier Peter Beattie today announced the appointment of four senior Queensland public servants to new positions as part of the Government’s fourth term renewal process.
Mr Beattie said the four would have a key role to play in helping the Government deliver on election commitments in key areas such as water and education.
“Scott Spencer will take on the important role of Director General of Natural Resources and Water, “Mr Beattie said.
“He is currently the Deputy Director General (Policy) in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
“Scott has extensive experience in the public service particular in areas such as primary industries, natural resources and water.
“He will be a valuable asset to the new Minister for Natural Resources and Water Kerry Shine.”
Mr Beattie said Bob McCarthy, the current Director General of Natural Resources and Water, would take on the role of Director General of State Development.
“Bob has previously worked in State Development as Deputy Director General,” he said.
“He has extensive knowledge of the Department and its operations with previous responsibilities including industry expansion and investment. “
Mr Beattie said Rachel Hunter, the current Director General of Justice and the Attorney-General, will become the new Director General for Education, Training and the Arts.
“Rachel will take over from Ken Smith who has been appointed as Queensland’s new Commissioner and Agent-General for Europe,” Mr Beattie said.
“Rachel has an association of more than twenty years with the vocational, education and training sector including a period as the Director of Queensland’s largest training provider – the Southbank Institute of TAFE.
“Jim McGowan has been appointed as the new Director of Justice and the Attorney-General. He is currently the Deputy Director-General within that Department.”
Mr Beattie said the changes would bring a fresh approach that would help deliver continued improvements in services and infrastructure for Queenslanders.
