Minister for Emergency Services and Minister for Sport
The Honourable Mick Veivers
NEW ROBINA FIRE STATION
Mr Veivers said the provision of a first class fire service was becoming more sophisticated and more expensive.
"This station cost more than $825,000 and with the new station at Helensvale, it represents a $1.5 million dollar-plus investment for fire services on the Gold Coast.
"Located close to the Pacific Highway, QFRA staff are well placed to provide a quick response to road accidents in the area.
"It will also allow us to service surrounding areas such as Merrimac, Mudgeeraba, Worongary, Tallai, Mermaid and Nobbys Beach, and of course Robina," he said.
Robina will have a 24-hour crew response and one of the State's newest fire vehicles, a $300,000-plus Firepac, and the regions only high reach ladder platform. The $1 million-plus ladder platform is one of only two in Queensland and will be used for high-rise fires along the Coast.
"Experienced staff for the new station have come from the Worongary station and others have come from the Gold Coast, Beenleigh and South Brisbane areas.
Mr Veivers said morale within the QFRA had never been better.
"Over the next 12 months the Fire Service will be out in the community promoting fire safety and fire prevention
"Firefighters will continue to promote fire safety with kids, increase efforts to ensure every Queensland home has a smoke alarm and actively promote fire safety issues within urban and rural areas," the Minister said.
