Another major Brisbane shopping centre is establishing an innovative program that makes it easy to access the services provided by Justices of the Peace.

Launching the 'JPs in the Community' program at Westfield Carindale, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Rod Welford, said the service was proving a hit with Queenslanders.

"By establishing this service, Westfield Carindale is helping to solve a long running problem for Brisbane residents living south of the river," Mr Welford said.

"One of the great frustrations for people has been where to find a JP. Their availability in this major local shopping centre is an innovative and common-sense solution.

"The JPs service has been a resounding success at Westfield Chermside on Brisbane's northside, and I anticipate the reaction here will be much the same.

"The service at Chermside has gone from an initial two to three days a week and the number of volunteers has increased from seven to 22. To date, the JPs participating have witnessed over 800 documents.

"Our Government is delighted to be working in partnership with Westfield to expand this program to Carindale, and we look forward to further discussions about its possible expansion to Westfield Garden City."

Local JPs will be available at the Carindale centre two days a week - on Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm - to witness affidavits and statutory declarations.

Westfield Carindale Centre Manager, Linda Cave, said the program had been established in response to a need identified by customers.

"We've had many requests from people coming to our centre asking for a JP," she said.

"The JPs program will provide a valuable and convenient service to customers and retailers and we may look to expanding the hours it is available.

"We already have many JPs interested in volunteering their time and we are very grateful for their contribution of time in skill into our community."

Ms Cave said a counter would be set up on the Ground Level in the Medicare Mall, just outside Flight Centre, for the new service.
