Minister for Transport & Main Roads
The Honourable Paul Lucas

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Lytton State member Paul Lucas today announced a $3.9 million construction of a new rail bridge allowing Colina Street to re-open by mid-June.

Mr Lucas said the new concrete bridge will be constructed over Wynnum Creek replacing its old timber predecessor which was becoming too old.

"I'm delighted to announce Queensland Rail expects Colina Street to re-open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic by mid-June this year," Mr Lucas said.

"The project comes as great news to locals as more than 80 people are expected to be employed on site for the project - including 30 by the contractor.

"Most of the work will involve demolishing the old bridge and installing the new design over the Labour Day long weekend.

"This will require Queensland Rail to close the railway line from 2am on Saturday 1 until 3.30 am Monday 3 of long weekend."

While Mr Lucas apologised for any inconvenience the construction may cause to local residents, he stressed alternative public transport options would be made available.

"Buses will be co-ordinated to meet the Queensland Rail's timetable to collect passengers between the Cleveland and Wynnum North stations and transport them to Lindum Station," Mr Lucas said.

"From Lindum Station, all Citytrain services will operate as normal including connections to and from Stradbroke Island."

Mr Lucas said the $3.9 million project included civil works being undertaken by Brisbane builder J F Hull Holdings Pty Ltd worth $2.1 million.

"These civil works include the demolition of the old bridge, construction of foundations and tiers and the decking for the new bridge," Mr Lucas said.

"Queensland Rail's role in this project has been to design, provide track work and reconstruct the overhead wiring."

Mr Lucas said height warning gauges for road users would be installed at both approaches to the bridge.
