Minister for Police & Corrective Services
The Honourable Judy Spence

The Minister for Police and Corrective Services, Judy Spence, today officially opened the new Sherwood Police Station.

The original Sherwood Police Station on Oxley Road was built in 1938 and was removed last year to make way for the upgraded station.

Ms Spence said $470,000 from the Queensland Police Service Capital Works Program was allocated for the new station.

"This new station will be able to accommodate up to 18 police officers and has office space for an Officer-in-Charge as well as a Sergeants and Constables dayroom," Ms Spence said.

"There is also an interview room, two holding cells and administration area.

"The upgrade of this station reinforces the Beattie Government's commitment to building safer communities."

The Member for Indooroopilly, Ronan Lee, said he had worked with the former Police Minister, Tony McGrady, to deliver this important asset for the local community.

"I am sure this new police station will be welcomed by the people of Sherwood, Graceville, Chelmer, Corinda and the surrounding suburbs of Oxley, Rocklea, Yeerongpilly and Tennyson," Mr Lee said.

"This new station will mean that in the near future, the Sherwood Police Station will have the staffing capacity to operate 24 hours a day."

The Member for Mt Ommaney, Julie Attwood, added: "This new facility will enhance the police presence in the Sherwood, Corinda and Oxley areas and also provide updated resources for the local police officers."

"This was something Ronan Lee and I have lobbied hard for and it is wonderful to see this station officially opened today."
