Rex Lookout upgrade to improve safety
Transport and Main Roads Minister Steve Bredhauer said work had started on the $380,000 project and would continue until the end of March, weather permitting.
"The road will be widened and the road surface will be improved, while linemarking and signage will also be upgraded," Mr Bredhauer said.
He said to accommodate the large number of motorists who stop at the lookout, designated parking areas, including bus parking, would be provided on both sides of the highway.
"Pedestrian fencing will be installed between the car park on the western side and the lookout to help pedestrians to cross at the safest location," Mr Bredhauer said.
Mr Bredhauer said the curve south of the lookout would be widened and the existing guardrail extended.
