Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Vaughan Johnson

NEW SCHOOL CROSSING FOR LOTA

Lota Primary School will have a new supervised school crossing when school starts next week.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Vaughan Johnson said the crossing is located at Railway Terrace, adjacent to the newly-installed railway cross walk at Lota Station.

The Lota Primary School crossing is one of eight new supervised crossings established in South East Queensland for the start of the new school year.

"Ensuring the safety of our school students is always a priority, especially at this time of year, and these crossings are further evidence of our commitment to providing improved safety facilities around our schools," said Mr Johnson.

Mr Johnson said supervision at the Lota school crossing would operate between 8.10am 8.50am and 2.55pm 3.25pm on school days.

Railway Terrace was being used as a thoroughfare by motorists and residents feared for the safety of pedestrians.

"The Railway Terrace crossing will provide safer access to the school for students and residents on the east side of the railway line and to children who travel by rail to attend schools between Cleveland and Brisbane," he said.

"These new supervised crossings are part of a broad range of Queensland Transport initiatives designed to ensure the safety of our children.

"Our children are our future, and this Coalition Government is committed to doing everything possible to ensure students are able to access schools in the safest possible environment," he said.

Mr Johnson said Queensland Transport was looking at establishing further supervised crossings at other South East Queensland schools during the year.
