The first flow of traffic was allowed over the new Bells Creek Bridge on the weekend.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Steve Bredhauer said the $1.7million Beattie Government-funded project was currently one month ahead of schedule.

"Now only minor works remain to be finished before the final completion of the bridge project which is expected at the end of this month.

"The early completion of Bells Creek Bridge is good news for people travelling to and from Sarina and coastal towns such as Campwin Beach, Sarina Beach and Grasstree Beach.

"There is now less chance of disruption during the wet season," he said.

Mr Bredhauer said the new bridge was 2.5 metres higher than the old crossing of Bells Creek and that would considerable reduce the inconvenience for both locals as well as the holiday makers, who bring considerable economic benefits to the area..
