US market recognises Queensland is open for business
- The Crisafulli Government is building Queensland’s reputation as an attractive place to invest.
- Queensland has become the first Australian state to transact a US dollar-denominated benchmark bond, attracting broad interest from international investors.
- Under the Crisafulli Government, Queensland is open for business.
- The Crisafulli Government is delivering better services through a stronger economy, with the issuance providing new access to the world’s deepest capital market.
The Crisafulli Government is restoring Queensland’s reputation as a place to invest by being the first Australian state to issue a US dollar-denominated benchmark bond.
It follows the pricing of a landmark US$2.0 billion 10-year fixed rate transaction, equivalent to approximately A$2.85 billion, which attracted broad demand from international investors.
Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC), the State’s central financing authority, completed the transaction as part of its long-term strategy to diversify Queensland’s funding sources.
This is another deal secured following the Premier’s recent US trade mission, which focused on driving investment into Queensland.
Treasurer David Janetzki said that under the Crisafulli Government, Queensland was open for business and working to rebuild the state’s reputation as a place to invest.
“After a decade of fiscal vandalism from the former Labor Government, our focus is on bringing investment into Queensland and delivering budget improvements,” Treasurer Janetzki said.
“This nation leading bond issuance shows we are open for business and reflects investor confidence in Queensland’s financial stability, which was recognised recently by Moody’s Ratings.
“A diversified and well-managed long-term funding program ensures we can continue to invest in vital infrastructure and services, drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for all Queenslanders."
QTC Funding and Markets Division Managing Director Susan Buckley said the transaction was an important step in QTC’s long-term funding strategy
“This transaction broadens our international investor base and builds on our established Australian dollar and Euro programs,” Ms Buckley said.
“The US dollar program supports cost-effective and sustainable funding and greater flexibility across markets.”
Australian dollar benchmark bonds remain QTC’s principal source of funding.
The transaction builds on Queensland’s inaugural EUR 1.25 billion Euro-denominated benchmark bond in May 2025, when it became the first Australian state to issue a Euro benchmark bond.
