Brazil and Socceroos superstars to train in front of fans

  • The Crisafulli Government has secured rare opportunities for football fans to see their heroes up close with Brazil and the Socceroos opening training sessions for the public.
  • Townsville will host an open Socceroos recovery session, while Brisbane will host open training with five-time world champions Brazil and the Socceroos.
  • The Crisafulli Government secured the two-game Queensland Football Series as part of its plan to cement Queensland as Australia’s events capital, backed by its Destination 2045 plan.

Queensland football fans will get a rare, free chance to see some of Brazil and Australia's biggest stars take to the field as the Crisafulli Government delivers public training opportunities around the blockbuster Queensland Football Series.

The Queensland Football Series will see five-time world champions Brazil take on the Socceroos in Townsville on Friday 25 September and Brisbane on Tuesday 29 September – with both matches secured by the Crisafulli Government.

The behind-the-scenes football fever will kick off in North Queensland, with the Socceroos hosting a free open recovery session at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on Saturday 26 September.

Gates open at 10.45am, with the Socceroos taking to the field from 11am to 12pm.

Brisbane sessions will follow, and in a rare opportunity for fans, Brazil will open its training session at Suncorp Stadium to the public on Monday 28 September, giving Queenslanders the chance to see the five-time FIFA World Cup champions prepare for their Brisbane clash with the Socceroos.

Gates open at 4.30pm, with Brazil taking to the field from 4.30pm to 5pm, before the Socceroos open their training session from 6pm to 7pm.

It is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to see some of the biggest names in world football up close, with Brazilian stars including Vinícius Júnior, Endrick and Raphinha set to take part in the Queensland Football Series.

The Brisbane open training sessions will be followed by the Queensland Football Series Forum - an exclusive chance for stakeholders to come together to maximise economic benefits and drive more investment into Queensland.

The Crisafulli Government secured the Queensland Football Series, bringing one of the world’s most recognisable sporting teams to the State for two blockbuster matches – and is now maximising the opportunity for Queensland fans, businesses and the visitor economy.

The series is part of the Crisafulli Government’s plan to cement Queensland’s reputation as Australia’s events capital, while driving visitors into regional Queensland and Brisbane after a decade of decline under Labor.

Fans can experience:

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said the free public training sessions were another major fan experience made possible by the Crisafulli Government's decision to secure the blockbuster series for Queensland.

“We went out and secured Brazil for Queensland – and now we’re giving Queenslanders the chance to get closer to the action than ever before,” Minister Powell said.

“Five-time world champions Brazil will train in front of Queensland fans for free – an extraordinary opportunity that comes because the Crisafulli Government secured this series and is making every opportunity count.

“We secured the games, we’re delivering the fan experiences and we’re putting Queensland on the world stage.

“This is what delivery looks like – bringing the world’s biggest events to Queensland, creating unforgettable experiences for fans and cementing our reputation as Australia’s events capital.”
