Restoring habitat for a stronger future for Queensland’s koalas

  • The Crisafulli Government delivers $600,000 in on-the-ground programs to boost koala habitat across southeast Queensland.
  • Community organisations will use the funding to plant trees, remove weeds and restore and enhance koala habitat.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering genuine support for Queensland's environment after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering almost $600,000 to restore and strengthen koala habitat across southeast Queensland, protecting one of the State’s most iconic species.

More than 27,000 native koala food and habitat trees will be planted across southeast Queensland, helping restore degraded landscapes, strengthen wildlife corridors and reconnect critical habitat for koalas.

The investment will support 11 on-ground projects in key koala areas across southeast Queensland through the Grassroots Environmental Grants program, delivering practical conservation outcomes where they are needed most.

Funding will help expand habitat, improve landscape connectivity, and create safer pathways for koalas across Koala Priority Areas and Areas of Regional Koala Significance.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering genuine support for Queensland’s environment after a decade of environmental neglect by Labor.

Minister for the Environment Andrew Powell said Queensland communities wanted to see koalas protected and that’s exactly what this investment would do.

"Queenslanders love koalas and we're taking practical action to protect them,” Minister Powell said.

"Protecting koalas starts with protecting the places they live and that's exactly what we're delivering.

"More habitat, more trees and better wildlife corridors mean a stronger future for Queensland's koalas.

"By restoring habitat today, we're helping ensure future generations can continue to see koalas in the wild."
