Flood hardship assistance expanded in Bundaberg and Barcaldine

  • Personal Hardship Assistance is available to more flood affected Queenslanders in Bundaberg and Barcaldine.
  • Eligible residents impacted by recent flooding can access payments to cover emergency essentials and other recovery needs.
  • Support is provided through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have expanded Personal Hardship Assistance to 11 more localities across the Bundaberg region, as well as parts of Barcaldine, following recent flooding.

Support includes payments of $180 for individuals and up to $900 for a family of five or more for emergency essentials like food, clothing and medicine, and measures targeting low income, uninsured residents.

Newly activated areas in the Bundaberg region include Avondale, Bucca, Bundaberg West, Delan, Drinan, Duingal, Givelda, Good Night, Moore Park Beach, Sharon, and Wallaville.

In Barcaldine, assistance is available to eligible residents in Alpha, Aramac, Jericho and Muttaburra, and the targeted locations of Plumbtree Hill Road and Barcaldine Downs Road.

This support is provided by the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Applications for Personal Hardship Assistance can be made at www.disaster.qld.gov.au or by calling the Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.

Flooded not-for-profits in Barcaldine can also apply for DRFA disaster loans up to $100,000 through www.qrida.qld.gov.au, giving vital cashflow to community organisations for recovery and operational needs.

Additionally, Somerset Regional Council can recoup the costs of their counter disaster operations, emergency repairs, and the reconstruction of essential public assets.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said disaster assistance will help with the immediate impacts the flooding has brought to families and communities.

“As floodwaters recede, we are making sure those affected are getting the help they need to recover from this disaster,” Minister McBain said.

“This financial support will get people over the hump.

“The road to recovery is going to prove challenging, but the Albanese Government will be there for Queenslanders every step of the way.”

Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said flood impacted communities will continue to receive support as they move into recovery.

“We are working closely with councils and our Community Recovery team to extend Personal Hardship Assistance to those who have been affected by the recent disaster,” Minister Leahy said.

“Getting impact assessments done fast has allowed us to activate funding at that same quick rate, and we’re maintaining our presence on the ground to keep response and recovery moving.”
