Calls for feedback on new draft Logan Basin water plan

  • The Crisafulli Government is calling for public feedback on a new draft water plan for the Logan Basin.
  • It will replace the current water plan, ensuring sustainable water management for the region.
  • Consultation will close on 20 March 2026.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future after releasing the new draft Water Plan for the Logan Basin 2026 for public consultation.

The draft plan will ensure sustainable water management for the region and balance water use for economic, social and environmental needs.

After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy by protecting local users, creating water security, and ensuring water is being used where it matters most through entitlements and secondary trading.

The Logan water plan area includes the Beaudesert, Logan, Beenleigh, Tamborine and Upper Logan catchment areas. Water from within the plan area also feeds the South East Queensland water grid and services the broader SEQ region.

The draft water plan has been informed by extensive stakeholder engagement and scientific assessments and proposes important strategies to support population growth, agriculture and water dependent industries while helping to protect the environment.

Key changes include formal groundwater management arrangements for the Tamborine Mountain area, performance improvement of Maroon Dam in the Logan River Water Supply Scheme, and a more flexible framework for trading of temporary (seasonal) water licences.

Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said Queenslanders’ feedback was a crucial step in updating the water plan.

“We received 215 submissions during the water plan review, so we know the community is invested in making sure this water plan supports their aspirations now and into the future,” Minister Leahy said.

“We know that the Logan catchment is a working catchment, so this plan aims to sustainably manage its water resources to balance the needs of SEQ communities, irrigators, recreational and environmental users.

“I welcome all community members to provide valuable feedback on this plan.”

Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause said the Logan Basin was vital to the region’s farmers, community and the broader South East Queensland water grid.

“Community input is essential to getting this right. I encourage locals, irrigators and water users to review the draft plan and have their say, so it reflects the needs of the region now and into the future," Mr Krause said.
