A major step towards delivering one of Queensland’s largest multi-purpose indoor sports centres and 2032 Games venues has begun.
Works are underway to start the transformation of the old Logan PCYC site into the Logan Indoor Sports Centre, which will be a key venue for the 2032 Games and beyond.
Demolition of the old structures has begun, clearing the way for a 7,000 spectator, nine-court venue that will provide a community sporting legacy for the young people, families and wider community.
Once complete, the centre will be able to host a wide range of indoor sports during the Games such as ball sports, boxing, martial arts and Para sports. Confirmation of the 2032 Games events will be confirmed later this year.
The Centre will also give local schools, clubs, and community groups access to world-class facilities post-Games, encouraging a new generation of athletes and more active Queenslanders.
The demolition of the site is a key milestone, with planning now progressing towards approvals including EPBC, and the principal design contractor of new the Centre to be announced soon.
The Logan Indoor Sports Centre is part of the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments which will deliver 17 new and upgraded venues across the state by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA).
