Tartan, kilts, pipe bands, some of the loudest music heard, and breathtaking cultural displays from around the world mean only one thing – the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is in town.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering the internationally acclaimed Tattoo as part of its Destination 2045 strategy, enhancing Brisbane’s reputation as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations.
After a vibrant opening show in Brisbane last night, Caxton Street will be transformed into the ‘Caxton Street Royal Mile’ today, replicating the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, with Tattoo performers marching to Suncorp Stadium for their second performance.
The four consecutive shows at Suncorp Stadium, are anticipated to generate $39 million for the Queensland economy, with more than 38,000 visitors anticipated to travel to Queensland for the event.
Hotel occupancy has also skyrocketed across the four performances, with a 20 per cent increase year on year.
The Tattoo’s 75th anniversary tour The Heroes Who Made Us, includes more than 1000 performers from across the world in one of the most globally diverse line-ups ever assembled for an international Tattoo production.
The cast includes performers from England, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, United States, Canada, Switzerland, Tonga, Japan, Sweden, Hong Kong and, of course, Scotland.
Premier David Crisafulli said the Government was focused on securing major events as part of its twenty-year tourism strategy Destination 2045.
“Thousands of Queenslanders are able to experience the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, one of the world’s most spectacular outdoor performances,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“Attracting an event of this calibre reinforces Queensland’s status as a global destination and the events capital of Australia.
“Queensland is the home of the holiday, and we will continue to bang the drum to secure major events and elevate Queensland on the world stage.”
Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said this was the first of many world class events secured in the lead up to 2032.
“The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most exciting events ever staged here and emphasises again Queensland’s status as the events capital of Australia,” Minister Powell said.
“We will continue to deliver world class events for Queensland, because they provide amazing entertainment and economic opportunities, which flow right into the hospitality industry, small businesses and retailers.”
