Crisafulli Government delivers A+ outcome as new chapter begins for Yarranlea Primary School
- The Crisafulli Government secures the long-term future of Yarranlea Primary School, community and sport facilities.
- Expressions of Interest open to find a new site operator under strict conditions preserving school and community use.
- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and giving certainty to families and students.
The school bells will continue to ring for students at Yarranlea Primary School, with the Crisafulli Government securing the long-term future of the Mount Gravatt site and nearby community facilities.
The former Labor Government left students at the independent school in limbo after failing to plan for the closure of Griffith University’s Mt Gravatt site, which hosts the school.
The Crisafulli Government is backing the Mt Gravatt community and is calling for Expressions of Interest for a new occupant of the site on strict conditions that the independent school, community and sporting facilities remain operational.
The deal will also protect neighbouring high value bushland areas for future generations.
Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last said the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future.
“This is a really exciting opportunity to deliver something special for the community in Brisbane’s south,” he said.
“The Crisafulli Government has made every effort to take swift action since being elected. This is despite the previous Labor Government being made aware of Griffith University’s intention to vacate the site as early as 2021.
“We will deliver the right solution for the site’s future and the continued operation of Yarranlea Primary School and the community and sport facilities will be a non-negotiable part of that solution.
“This is about providing certainty to the students, parents and teachers of Yarranlea Primary School and delivering an exciting new space for the community that will guarantee the future of the existing facilities.”
Yarranlea Primary School Board Chair Adrienne Innes has welcomed today’s announcement.
“I want to thank the state government for working with us to give our school community certainty about our future,” she said.
“Our community love this little school and the multi-age education and well-being it provides children.
“We look forward to working with both the state government and future owner so that our school can grow and flourish for years to come.”
Expressions of Interest will close on 13 March 2026.
