The Honourable Andrew Powell

Investing in Queensland's bright sparks

  • The Crisafulli Government is supporting Queensland innovators with latest funding for Ignite Ideas Fund and Ignite Spark Program.
  • Funding will help businesses accelerate development, scale their ideas and bring cutting-edge solutions to market.
  • More than 520 businesses supported through these initiatives.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is backing Queensland’s innovators and entrepreneurs with more than $2.6 million awarded through the latest rounds of Ignite Ideas Fund and the Ignite Spark Program.

The Ignite Ideas Fund provides up to $200,000 to support high-growth Queensland Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to take their product or service to domestic and global markets.

The Ignite Spark Program offers up to $75,000 to help innovation-driven businesses develop their product or service and prepare it for customer trials.

There have been 13 businesses supported through this latest round of Ignite Ideas Fund grants and a further 17 through the latest Ignite Spark Program grants.

These latest rounds bring the total number of businesses supported through these two initiatives to more than 520.

This round showcases Queensland innovation at its best, with recipients developing everything from a world-first blood test to predict postnatal depression and female-designed cricket armour, to rail-safety detection technology and AI systems to reduce bird-strike risks at airports.

Minister for Science and Innovation Andrew Powell said the funding backed bold thinkers and supported more jobs for Queenslanders.

“Queensland is a global leader in cutting-edge solutions, which is why we’re backing more opportunities for our local start-ups and entrepreneurs,” Minister Powell said.

“Innovation can be a tough space for early-stage businesses, and this funding helps bridge the gap by giving them the resources to keep moving forward.

“By accelerating the journey from prototype to market-ready product, we’re helping local businesses grow, compete and reach new markets.

“This support leads to new jobs, stronger industries and more opportunities right across Queensland.”
