The Crisafulli Government has opened consultation on a transformative new strategy to position Queensland at the forefront of science and innovation.  

The discussion paper - Ideas into Impact: Accelerating Science and Innovation for a Better Future - outlines the vision to harness Queensland’s unique strengths and drive economic growth through cutting-edge research and innovation.  

The paper focuses on three key areas: boosting capability, enhancing connections and focusing on commercialisation. 

This will be achieved by boosting talent, skills, and research infrastructure to build a creative, productive and competitive science and innovation ecosystem.  

The strategy has the potential to strengthen collaboration between researchers, businesses and communities, unlock groundbreaking research and new industries, attract investment and create high-value jobs. 

Science and innovation have the capacity to deliver real-world benefits for Queenslanders, from advancements in healthcare and sustainability to improvements in safety and quality of life.  

After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and ensuring the strategy delivers a vision that reflects shared priorities and aspirations. 

Minister for Science and Innovation Andrew Powell said this new strategy would shape the future of science and innovation across Queensland.  

“Here in Queensland, we believe great ideas deserve the opportunity to grow, thrive and make a difference,” Minister Powell said. 

“The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games gives us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our capabilities and secure investment that will benefit Queenslanders for decades to come.  

“Through this strategy we can get Queenslander’s ideas and feedback to help us accelerate science and innovation and make life better for everyone.” 

Feedback will be used to develop a long-term, evidence-based strategy that strengthens the science and innovation ecosystem. 

Consultation opens on 5 February and closes on 31 March.
