- The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders after Labor's decade of decline.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering much-needed housing supply to ease Labor’s Housing Crisis, with a new 92-unit social and affordable housing complex now complete in Chermside.
These new units will serve as safe and secure homes for vulnerable Queenslanders who have been experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, as well as essential workers needing affordable rentals.
After Labor’s decade of decline which saw social housing increase at less than a third of the state’s population growth, the Crisafulli Government is delivering record funding and getting Queensland building again.
These Chermside homes are designed with accessibility and ease of living in mind with wider hallways, step-free access, safer bathrooms and flexible layouts that support older Queenslanders, people with mobility needs and those wanting to age in place.
Residents will benefit from communal spaces and on-site tenancy support, helping them maintain a stable home and build long-term independence.
This development was delivered in partnership with community housing provider BHC and their consortium partner, QIC Limited, with financing from Housing Australia and Australian Retirement Trust.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O’Connor said the Chermside homes are a great example of delivering housing that meets community need.
“After a decade of inadequate housing delivery, our record investment of $5.6 billion will help more Queenslanders have a place to call home,” Minister O’Connor said.
“Our new partnerships with community housing providers like BHC are helping us deliver homes faster, with more support wrapped around residents so they can build a stable future.”
BHC Acting CEO Jamie Muchall said the partnership with the Queensland Government ensures more vulnerable Queenslanders can access safe and stable housing.
“We’re proud to work alongside a government that is focused on delivery and long-term housing outcomes," Mr Muchall said.
“Developments like this provide people with the security and the stability they need to rebuild their lives.”
