Queensland’s small and family business sector has reached a major milestone, surpassing more than half a million enterprises for the first time.

According to official figures, the number of small businesses in Queensland increased from 495,000 to more than 508,000 highlighting the resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of Queensland small and family businesses under the Crisafulli Government.

Queensland small and family businesses are thriving under the Crisafulli Government with more than $100 million in new initiatives and grants after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering the Small and Family Business First Action Statement, designed to improve the business operating environment across the state, as they generate an estimated $132 billion to the Queensland economy and employ more than 1.045 million Queenslanders.

Minister for Small and Family Business Steve Minnikin said small and family businesses play a critical role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering vibrant local communities.

“Small and family businesses are vital to our economy and our local communities, and surpassing half a million is a testament to the determination and ingenuity of our small and family business owners,” Minister Minnikin said.

“The Crisafulli Government is committed to continuing to put small and family business first and ensuring they have the resources and environment they need to thrive.

“The 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring global attention and opportunity to all corners of our State, and we are making sure small businesses have the tools, capability and confidence to seize these opportunities.

“Every time you shop locally, you’re investing in Queensland’s future. Let’s celebrate this achievement by continuing to champion our small businesses.”

Owner of recently opened Brisbane small business 075 Pinsa Romana Michele Bei said starting a small business has been challenging but exciting.

Being part of Queensland’s small and family business community is incredibly rewarding,” Mr Bei said.

“It’s not just about building something from the ground up, but also about creating opportunities and jobs for others, while contributing to my local community.”

Key programs under the Action Statement currently open for applications include the Business Growth FundSecure Communities Partnership Program and Small Business Apprenticeship Pilot Program.
