The Crisafulli Government has broken ground in Charleville as part of its landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders.
The milestone marks a major step towards delivering more homes and building a stronger future for Western Queensland.
The Aurora Estate, when completed, will deliver 65 new residential blocks in a flood-free area of Charleville, helping ease housing pressures, attract families, skilled workers and businesses to the region.
Through $13 million in funding from the Crisafulli Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, the project will deliver critical enabling infrastructure for the extension of Aurora Estate.
Works include construction of sewerage, telecommunications pit and pipes, sealed roads, kerb and channelling, footpaths, water supply, stormwater drainage and electrical infrastructure.
Stage 2 builds on the success of Aurora Estate Stage 1 and reflects a shared vision of growth and sustainability for western Queensland.
The development will not only deliver new homes in Western Queensland but also create jobs during construction, support local businesses, enliven the community feel of the town and strengthen Charleville’s role as a vibrant hub in western Queensland.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the Crisafulli Government’s landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund program was an economic lifeline to many rural and regional communities across Queensland where housing shortage was the key barrier to attract and retain local workers and their families.
“By unlocking land for housing in flood-free areas, the Crisafulli Government is helping families put down roots, attract skilled workers, and ensure this community thrives for generations to come – a clear example of how this government is backing rural and regional Queensland and fixing Labor’s Housing Crisis,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
“This development will inject new funding into the local economy and unlock a place to call home for more Queenslanders after a decade of decline under Labor – a decade where housing supply stagnated and rural communities were left behind.
“Through our landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, we’re delivering the essential infrastructure needed to get housing projects off the ground sooner, reversing years of inaction and ensuring Queenslanders have access to affordable, flood-free housing.
“With at least half of the funding invested outside of South East Queensland, projects like this showcase how the Crisafulli Government is not only supporting the bush but also tackling the housing shortage head-on by creating vibrant, resilient places for more Queenslanders to call home.
“Stage 2 of Aurora Estate’s extension will create jobs during construction and deliver long-term benefits for schools, healthcare, and local businesses.
“Unlike Labor, we are working with councils and industry to unlock new housing supply right across Queensland.
“This shovel-ready development reflects a shared vision of growth, opportunity, and resilience, ensuring that the Murweh Shire remains a welcoming and thriving place for generations to come.”
Member for Warrego Ann Leahy said this was a major milestone for Charleville and for Western Queensland, with the Crisafulli Government’s first Residential Activation Fund project breaking ground right here in the Charleville community.
“Unlocking 65 flood-free residential blocks at the Aurora Estate will help ease housing pressures and give more families, workers and businesses the confidence to put down roots in our region,” Ms Leahy said.
“After years of housing stagnation under Labor, this $13 million investment is delivering the enabling infrastructure our community needs to grow.
“The Aurora Estate expansion will create local jobs, strengthen Murweh Shire’s resilience, and ensure Charleville continues to thrive as a vibrant regional hub for generations to come.”
Murweh Shire Mayor Shaun ‘Zoro’ Radnedge said the project was a game-changer for the Murweh Shire.
“To find ourselves on the cusp of commencement of the development of 65 housing blocks in a new estate in a flood-free area here in Charleville is very exciting for our region,” said Mayor Radnedge.
“Through the extension of Aurora Estate in Stage 2, our residents will have an opportunity to invest and build out of the flood-prone area to make our community more resilient.
“This decision by the Queensland Government offers an invaluable housing development future for the Murweh Shire.”
