Landmark hotel developments to deliver a fresh start for The Spit

  • Crisafulli Government announces two landmark projects to deliver new tourism, marine infrastructure, and vibrant public spaces as part of The Spit Master Plan.
  • Carter’s Basin redevelopment will provide new marina berths, support the fishing fleet, and enhance marine tourism opportunities, plus mixed-use family orientated short-term accommodation.
  • Village East Resort will create a beachfront coastal resort with hotel rooms, villas, dining, and new public amenities.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy and ending years of Labor inaction with private investment of more than half a billion dollars which is set to transform The Spit on the Gold Coast.

After the former Labor Government’s decade of decline and missed opportunities, the developments mark a new era of confidence, investment, and progress for the Gold Coast.

The Carter’s Basin redevelopment will create a thriving marine precinct with over 100 new commercial marina berths, support for the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Operative, short-stay accommodation, retail spaces, and upgraded public areas including boardwalks and improved pedestrian connections.

The development will address the shortage of commercial marina berths and supporting the local fishing industry.

The second project, Village East Resort, will transform the last beachfront site at The Spit into a vibrant coastal resort featuring hotel rooms, short-stay villas, ground-floor dining, and spaces for community events and markets.

A new public plaza will link Seaworld Drive to the Gold Coast Oceanway, complemented by upgraded amenities and a public car park.

Construction is expected to begin shortly after development approvals are given, with public facilities delivered ahead of the resort’s completion.

Both developments are part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to The Spit Master Plan, ensuring the peninsula drives the next generation of tourism and economic growth on the Gold Coast.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the announcement was proof the Crisafulli Government was doing what Labor failed to do to drive Queensland’s economy.

“For too long, Queensland was stuck in neutral while Labor talked about The Spit but delayed projects every opportunity,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“These projects are delivering the Fresh Start for Queensland we promised and creating a lifestyle that matches our state’s potential.

“The Crisafulli Government is backing Queenslanders by delivering the infrastructure and investment that drives a stronger economy and a better way of life.”

Member for Surfers Paradise John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was delivering for the Gold Coast.

“This plan is a game changer and it sends a clear message that the Gold Coast and Queensland are open for business,” Mr Langbroek said.

“After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.”

Director of Pelligra Giannarelli Group Dion Giannerelli said the vision for Carter’s Basin was to create a thriving marine precinct that respected the area’s heritage while embracing its future potential.

“We are committed to working closely with the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Operative and other stakeholders to ensure this development meets the needs of the community and delivers long-term benefits for the region,” Mr Giannerelli said.

Managing Director of Vitale Property Group Chris Vitale said the Village East project reflected a long-term commitment to delivering a world-class resort that balanced tourism, public access and environmental considerations.

“The focus is on creating a well-considered global destination that enhances the public realm and integrates thoughtfully with its setting,” Mr Vitale said.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with the Crisafulli Government to progress a project that delivers enduring economic and community benefit.”
