New State Delivered Kindergartens for regional Queensland

  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering two new State Delivered Kindergartens at Mutarnee and Irvinebank State Schools.
  • The new kindergartens will open next year and support families in regional Queensland to access vital early childhood education.
  • The Crisafulli Government is ensuring the best start for young Queenslanders in their education journey after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start and a plan for Queensland’s future by establishing two new State Delivered Kindergartens in regional Queensland, to ensure children in remote areas have access to vital early childhood education.

The new kindergartens will be located at Mutarnee State School in North Queensland and Irvinebank State School in Far North Queensland, with both programs set to open in time for Term 1, 2026.

State Delivered Kindergartens are established in state schools where there isn’t another Kindy provider within 40 kilometers or in communities where families experience unique challenges in accessing Kindergarten.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future, with a $21.9 billion Education Budget that lays the foundation for a fresh start with new schools, safer classrooms and more support four Queensland’s youngest and most vulnerable kids.

This includes a $1.09 billion investment to deliver new schools across Queensland, after the former Labor Government failed to properly plan and resources schools and regional Queensland kids fell through the cracks.

Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was delivering for Queensland's future by providing more access to early education for families in regional and remote parts Queensland.

“The new programs at Mutarnee and Irvinebank are part of our plan to ensure every child in Queensland has access to quality early education, no matter where they live,” Minister Langbroek said.

“For families in regional and remote areas accessing kindergartens can be a challenge and that’s why the Crisafulli Government is committed to delivering these programs in communities where other providers aren’t available.

After a decade of Labor neglect, we’re putting resources where they’re needed most to better support families, teachers, principals and school staff.

“We know how important our state schools are in small communities and we want to thank Mutarnee and Irvinebank for working closely with us to make these kindy programs a reality.

As we head into the Christmas break, Kindy’s and schools are running transition programs to help kids prepare for Prep. These programs are so important, and for our regional and remote children, having Kindy available at their local school makes that transition even smoother.”
