The Honourable Brent Mickelberg

Crisafulli Government delivers new bus services for Ipswich community.

  • More than 1,100 new weekly bus services begin today across Ipswich as part of the Crisafulli Government’s $70 million bus improvement package.
  • There are four new bus routes and upgrades to three existing routes.
  • The former Labor government failed to deliver these bus services improvements for the people of Ipswich during its decade of decline.

Thousands of Ipswich residents from today can now catch a bus from their suburb for the first time following a $70 million Crisafulli Government investment for the Ipswich and Logan Bus Service Improvement Package.

The first stage of the bus improvement package will introduce four new routes and improvements to three existing routes across Ipswich, resulting in 1,198 new weekly services.

The four new routes, which start today, will improve public transport for more than 42,300 residents, with about 8,200 residents to benefit from bus services for the first time.

The new routes are part of a three-year, three-stage bus upgrade package which will also bring new services to the growth areas of Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park, Collingwood Park, and Redbank Plains as well as Springfield, Deebing Heights, Karalee and the Ripley Valley Priority Development Area.

Stage 2 and 3 of the Ipswich and Logan Bus Improvement Package are on track to be rolled out as scheduled in 2026 and 2027 respectively, with detailed planning work currently underway.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government’s investment in Ipswich marked a significant milestone in meeting the region's growing transport needs.

"The former Labor government’s decade of decline saw the Ipswich community left wanting when it came to reliable public transport. Labor had 10 years to provide better transport infrastructure and services for these communities - so I am glad we are getting on with delivering for the people of Ipswich,” Minister Mickelberg said.

“With new buses, expanded infrastructure and additional bus stops, we're making public transport a more practical and attractive option for the community.

“We’re focused on supporting a safer, more reliable network for the Ipswich community that better connects people to jobs, education, and essential services.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering these Stage 1 improvements this year 2025, as planned, to strengthen the local transport network and give residents more choice in how they travel.”

Ipswich City Council Mayor Teresa Harding congratulated the Crisafulli Government on the start of services on the new routes.

“Better Bus Network for Ipswich is one of council’s priorities and a regionally significant project for the City of Ipswich,” Mayor Harding said.

“We welcome the Crisafulli Government’s investment in bus services that will provide more equitable public transport access and support the future growth of the region.

“Improved public transport is a major focus for the city’s recently endorsed updated iGO Ipswich Transport Strategy 2025.

“It forecasts that in 2046, 56 per cent of more than 2 million trips to, from and within our city per day are expected to be less than 10km, meaning they could be taken by bus, e-mobility, walking or cycling. However, 84.3 per cent of trips are expected to be undertaken by private vehicles.

“This shows there is enormous potential to shift to more sustainable forms of transport, like buses and active transport alternatives.

“It is important that we continue to focus our efforts on delivering more sustainable, efficient and affordable transport methods and leverage the advantages of new transport technologies where appropriate.”
