Public consultation is open on the new draft Gold Coast water plan, as part of the Crisafulli Government’s plan to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.
It’s just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and helping secure water security for the region into the future.
The draft water plan has been informed by extensive stakeholder engagement and scientific assessments and proposes important strategies to help protect the environment, and support population growth and the local economy.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment, after promising to meet the growing needs of the State through the Watertight Water Security Plan.
The water plan area covers the Gold Coast and surrounds, including Pimpama, Jacobs Well, Springbrook, Natural Bridge, Binna Burra and parts of Tamborine Mountain.
Changes have been introduced to better provide for growing townships and the Gold Coast City Council area. Updates are proposed to existing water entitlements for small scale agriculture and commercial uses to facilitate more flexible, effective use of water.
The draft plan also formalises underground water management arrangements for Springbrook and Tambourine Mountain areas.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said that feedback on the draft water plan and its supporting documents was crucial to help shape water resource management for the region.
“The South East is growing fast and the Crisafulli Government’s new Gold Coast water plan will play a key role in delivering for the region in the decade ahead,” Minister Leahy said.
“This is a plan that will support the liveability of our towns and cities, protect our natural assets and promote tourism, and grow primary production and industries into the future.
“Whether you live in Currumbin, Beechmont, Norwell, or a suburb in between, I encourage you to get involved, review the draft plan and have your say."
Consultation is now open and will close 30 November 2025.
