The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with a new intensive early intervention program for Moreton Bay, to help restore safety where you live.

The new Regional Reset program, delivered by Youth Insearch, will provide more than four months of intensive support for at-risk youth showing early signs of disengagement, antisocial or criminal behaviour to help make Queensland safer.

Participants will undertake three short-stay ‘resets’ at a residential facility at PCYC Bornhoffen, where they will receive 24/7 support and supervision.

During their stay, they will participate in a range of activities to develop their emotional, social, and physical wellbeing; including cultural mentoring, education, life and employment skills workshops, and adventure-based outdoor activities.

The program will also offer a range of activities, peer support groups and family engagement sessions at the Caboolture and Deception Bay PCYC to help young people re-engage with their communities and divert them from crime.

The $50 million Regional Reset program will be delivered in nine locations across the State and is one of several new early intervention programs funded in the Budget, to help restore safety where you live.

During a decade of Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis, there was inadequate investment in early intervention measures, which created a generation of serious repeat offenders.

The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with stronger laws, more police, early intervention and rehabilitation.

Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support Laura Gerber said the Regional Reset program would help break the cycle of crime in Queensland.

“We are restoring safety where you live with intensive youth early intervention programs to hit the reset button before they become serious repeat youth criminals,” Minister Gerber said.

“By turning kids’ lives around early, we will have less youth offenders, fewer victims of crime, and safer communities.

“Not only will Regional Reset provide a reset for the youth, from the bad influences leading to crime, it will also engage with parents so they can get the support they need to help change behaviours leading to crime.”

Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley said the Regional Reset program would help restore safety where you live.

“I’ve watched our community suffer under Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis, and this program will be vital to restoring safety to Moreton Bay and reducing victims of crime,” Ms Dooley said.

Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan welcomed the funding for the region.

“We know one of the best ways to reduce crime is to intervene early and these programs will give at-risk youth the support they need to re-engage with education and become productive members of the community,” Miss Doolan said.

Youth Insearch Chief Executive Officer Stephen Lewin said the funding would help transform young lives by giving them the opportunity to reset their path.

“We know that young people with lived experience are most effective in supporting their peers to overcome life challenges, instil hope and build connections and social networks within community,” Mr Lewin said.

“Our peer-led program provides structured, tailored supports to help a young person repair relationship, rebuild trust and strengthen connections to school, community and culture while reducing offending behaviour."
