Crisafulli Government delivering for Mackay Whitsundays region at Community Cabinet

  • The Crisafulli Government has hosted its fourth Community Cabinet of 2025 in Mackay to listen to the priorities of local Queenslanders.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for regional Queensland after holding a successful meeting of Community Cabinet in Mackay.  

More than 200 people attended the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on Sunday, where the Crisafulli Government outlined how it is delivering safety where you live, restoring health services when you need them and delivering a plan for Queensland’s future as well as a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.  

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy for the region, and during the visit, announced $1 million for Chances House to continue supporting vulnerable Queenslanders experiencing homelessness. 

A further $1 million was announced in further support for some of Mackay Whitsundays most vulnerable, for six additional homelessness services.  

The Crisafulli Government is restoring safety in Mackay’s CBD by delivering tailored solutions and strategies to reduce antisocial behaviour, following the September forum hosted by Premier David Crisafulli and Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton.  

It is also delivering more Queenslanders a place to call home by delivering $41.66 million - through the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund – which will unlock eight infrastructure projects in the Mackay Whitsundays region to deliver 2,977 new homes.  

The delivery of $44.1 million will also help expand and improve social and community housing in the Mackay region to support vulnerable Queenslanders.  

The Crisafulli Government is restoring health services when Queenslanders need them most through the Mackay Hospital expansion, which will deliver at least 128 new overnight beds through the fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan, as well as expanding the transit lounge at Mackay Hospital.  

Employment and training opportunities for young people in Mackay are being enhanced with the expansion of the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy.   

The Crisafulli Government is delivering $2 million to establish academy regional hubs in Central and North Queensland with the first based in Mackay at the Resources Centre of Excellence.   

Premier David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering a plan for the Mackay Whitsunday region’s future.  

“We’re listening to the people of the Mackay Whitsundays to ensure we deliver what matters to them – safety where you live, health services when you need them, a stronger economy and a plan for the future,” Premier Crisafulli said.  

“This Mackay Community Cabinet has been a great opportunity to engage with the community to listen to ideas and priorities as we shape the future together delivering safety where you live, health services when you need them, and a plan for the future,” Premier Crisafulli said.  

“Thank you to everyone who supported the event and took the time to meet with Ministers because this government is laser-focused on delivering a fresh start for Queenslanders across this region.” 

Previous Community Cabinets have been held this year in Cairns, Townsville, and Emerald.
