Delivering Destination 2045: Homegrown Queensland events get funding boost

  • $14 million fund to grow uniquely Queensland events and cement the State as Australia’s home of events.
  • First round of revamped event fund to invest more than $1.5 million shared across 31 homegrown events.
  • Crisafulli Government's rapid action is welcome relief for Queenslanders after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is cementing the State as Australia’s events capital with $14 million over four years to enhance and grow uniquely Queensland events to attract more visitors.

In Round 1 of the revamped Homegrown Destination Events Fund, more than $1.5 million will be shared across 31 events planned throughout 2026, supporting local experiences that attract visitors and boost regional economies.

Event operators can apply for up to $300,000 over three years to grow iconic local events that showcase Queensland as a must-visit destination and contribute to the visitor economy.

In a boost for cultural tourism, grants of up to $40,000 are available to support events that celebrate and showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Among the 31 events receiving funding in Round 1 are:

  • World Science Festival Brisbane

  • Gold Coast Running Festival

  • Port Douglas Carnivale

The Great Island Trek on Magnetic Island will receive funding for the first time, highlighting Queensland’s commitment to ecotourism.

Queensland’s tourism industry suffered during a decade of decline under the former Labor Government, which axed millions in funding that would have led to slashed programs and services across the State.

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said that the boost in homegrown event funding showed the government’s commitment to making Queensland the events capital of the country.

“Queensland is the home of the holiday which is why we’re investing in homegrown events that deliver unforgettable visitor experiences and drive regional tourism,” Minister Powell said.

“These uniquely Queensland events showcase the best of our regions and provide a significant boost to local economies.

“This investment is only possible because our government is reversing a decade of decline under Labor which included slashing the tourism budget.”

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Craig Davidson said the revamped Homegrown Destination Events Fund would help events grow and thrive.

“Homegrown is not only breathing new life into Queensland’s beloved and longstanding community events but is also investing in emerging experiences that will shape the future of our visitor economy.

“By supporting both legacy and new events, we’re strengthening the industry’s foundations and creating fresh opportunities for growth across the state.

“From the breathtaking Kalbar Sunflower Festival to the Noosa Festival of Surfing and the Festival of Outback Skies, we are truly showcasing our state's vibrant spirit to a national and international stage."

Applications for Homegrown Round 2 are open.
