Volunteering in Queensland report shaped by over 500 submissions

  • Inquiry into Volunteering in Queensland report delivered to the Crisafulli Government.
  • More than 15 public hearings were held across Queensland,  and more than 500 submissions have informed the report.
  • The Crisafulli Government will now review the report's findings and recommendations.
  • The Parliamentary Inquiry delivers on a key election commitment of the Crisafulli Government and demonstrates 10 months of delivery after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government has today welcomed the Inquiry into Volunteering in Queensland report, which examined the valuable contributions of volunteers and identified key challenges and opportunities to strengthen volunteering across the state.

Delivered by the Queensland Parliament’s Local Government, Small Business and Customer Service Committee, the Inquiry and its findings fulfil a key Crisafulli Government election commitment to support Queensland’s unsung heroes.

More than 500 submissions, including individual volunteers, community groups, and organisations, were provided through 15 public hearings and written contributions since the Inquiry commenced in December 2024.

Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy thanked the Committee for its dedication to leading this inquiry, and the many Queenslanders for their courage and contributions to the Inquiry.

“From our tireless SES volunteers to the aged care centre volunteers and the JPs at our local shops, volunteers are the backbone of our communities,” Minister Leahy said.

“Their input has shaped this report, and we’re committed to delivering real support for those who give so much to Queensland.

“This report will help us to understand the barriers and pathways to volunteering better and provide an opportunity to further support those who are passionate about helping their community and want to volunteer.”

The Crisafulli Government will now review the report’s findings and recommendations to identify practical ways to strengthen volunteering across Queensland.
