Crisafulli Government delivers more homes for Queensland renters
- The Crisafulli Government helps more Queenslanders find a place to call home in thriving Brisbane suburbs thanks to innovative initiative with private sector.
- Mirvac-built apartment complex in Newstead the first of three Build to Rent pilot projects easing Labor’s Housing Crisis.
- Development includes 99 affordable apartments at reduced rate for eligible local workers.
- Build to Rent Pilot Program part of record $8.1 billion housing investment over five years and delivery of 1 million new homes by 2044.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering almost 400 new homes in partnership with the private sector to help ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
The 396-apartment complex in Newstead is the first of three Build to Rent pilot projects that will provide more than 1,200 new homes solely for Queensland renters.
LIV Anura, built and managed by Mirvac, will include up to 99 affordable apartments at a reduced rate for eligible renters working within 10 kilometres of the site.
The new build features studios, one and two-bedroom apartments across two buildings, 3,000sqm of indoor and outdoor shared resident spaces and more than 1,000sqm of boutique retail.
The Crisafulli Government’s first Budget included an additional $1.967 billion to accelerate 53,500 social and community homes in the next two decades and permanent baseline funding of at least $500 million per year from 2029-30.
Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership David Janetzki said the development was another step to ease Labor’s Housing Crisis.
“Every Queenslander deserves a roof over their head, and we're firmly focused on unlocking new land for housing, boosting home ownership and easing pressure for renters,” Minister Janetzki said.
“The Crisafulli Government recognises the majority of residential housing is delivered by the private sector, and projects like this are a fantastic example of new ways we can partner to deliver high-quality new supply for Queensland.”
The Build to Rent Pilot Program is part of the Crisafulli Government’s record $8.1 billion investment in housing over the next five years, and planned delivery of 1 million new homes by 2044.
Housing Minister Sam O’Connor said the Crisafulli Government’s comprehensive housing plan would increase supply and help Queenslanders trying desperately to achieve the dream of owning their own home.
“Projects like LIV Anura provide more homes for hard-working Queenslander renters, who are bearing the brunt of Labor’s Housing Crisis,” Minister O’Connor said.
“Under the former Labor Government, rents soared 60 per cent because supply did not keep pace with demand.
"On average, only 509 social homes were built each year for a decade and at that rate it would have taken more than 100 years to deliver our State’s target of building 53,500 social and community homes.”
Mirvac CEO and Managing Director Campbell Hanan said his group was proud to deliver its first build-to-rent project in Queensland alongside the Crisafulli Government and investors Mitsubishi Estate Asia and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
“Delivering a diverse range of housing supply that meets growing demand is key to improving access to housing for Queenslanders,” Mr Hanan said.
“LIV Anura is a great example of what can be achieved when industry and government work together.”
