The Honourable Tim Nicholls

New Bundaberg Hospital part of history-making Health Budget

  • The Crisafulli Government’s record $33.1 billion Health Budget will deliver a new Bundaberg Hospital for the Wide Bay.
  • The project is part of the fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan, which will deliver more than 2,600 new beds across Queensland.
  • The new Bundaberg Hospital will have more than 410 bed and bed alternatives, including a larger emergency department and more operating rooms.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering easier access to health services with a new Bundaberg Hospital for the Wide Bay, as part of a record $33.1 billion health investment in the 2025-26 Budget.

The new Bundaberg Hospital will include 410 hospital beds, a larger emergency department, expanded outpatient and diagnostic services, more operating rooms and a rooftop helipad.

The new facility is part of the Crisafulli Government’s fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan, which will deliver more than 2,600 new beds across Queensland and more free healthcare than ever before.

This plan was developed after a scathing independent review into Labor’s failed hospital build program exposed mismanagement, lengthy delays, billions in budget blowouts and significant design flaws.

In Bundaberg, Labor’s plan had services delivered at split campuses and at the old, flood-prone site, costing the Hospital and Health Service up to $200 million per annum in additional operating costs.

Health and Ambulance Services Minister Tim Nicholls said the Crisafulli Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan was delivering for the needs of the Wide Bay community.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering a new hospital in Bundaberg with 410 hospital beds and more free healthcare than ever before,” Minister Nicholls said.

“Not only are we delivering the Bundaberg Hospital, but we are delivering it before Labor ever would have and we’re delivering a hospital that will meet the needs of the region as it continues to grow.

The former Labor Government ignored the obvious need for a new Bundaberg Hospital and now the Crisafulli Government is saving Wide Bay’s health system through the greatest investment in health infrastructure in the State’s history.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the new Bundaberg hospital would not only ensure the health needs of the region were met but would also attract much-needed clinicians and health workers to the area.

“This is an exciting time for Bundaberg and I look forward to seeing the work progress on the new hospital, as we deliver a facility that helps attract and retain more skilled health workers to the Wide Bay region, Mr Bennett said.
