Record investment to deliver a place to call home in Yeronga
- Construction underway on 75 new social and affordable homes in suburban Brisbane.
- Crisafulli Government’s first Budget locks in long-term pipeline of social and community housing construction, with a $5.6 billion investment pipeline.
- More than 720 new social and affordable homes in construction or under contract across Greater Brisbane to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders, with 75 new social and affordable homes under construction in Brisbane and hundreds more set to start.
The new Yeronga homes will be delivered by community housing provider Brisbane Housing Company, and built to platinum, gold or silver level under the industry adopted Liveable Housing Design Guidelines.
Construction is well underway, with tenants expected to move in by mid-2027.
The homes are among more than 720 social and affordable homes in construction or under contract to be delivered, which include:
- 92 social and affordable homes in Chermside
- 82 social and affordable homes in Stones Corner
- 81 social and affordable homes in Woolloongabba
- 20 social homes in South Brisbane
- 16 social homes in Windsor.
The Crisafulli Government’s 2025-26 Budget delivers $8.1 billion as part of the Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders with one new million homes, including 53,500 social and community homes by 2044.
As part of this commitment, a record $5.6 billion will be invested in new social and community housing over the next four years to deliver on that goal.
For the first time, the Budget also locks in baseline funding of $500 million a year from 2029-30, creating a long-term pipeline of social and community homes for Queenslanders most in need.
It follows a decade of underinvestment in social and community housing by the former Government, leading more than 52,000 Queenslanders stuck on Labor’s social housing waitlist.
The Crisafulli Government’s Budget also locks in a 20 per cent uplift in support for specialist homelessness services across Brisbane and across the State more than doubles funding for head leased properties to house our most vulnerable over the next four years.
This investment is helping create stable, sustainable communities and improving housing access for people with disability, older Queenslanders, and vulnerable households.
Minister for Housing Sam O’Connor said social and community housing developments like the Yeronga development were critical to create stable, sustainable communities that supported economic and social inclusion.
“The Crisafulli Government’s first Budget delivers $5.6 billion for social and community housing — the biggest investment Queensland has ever seen — and this Yeronga development shows what that funding will deliver,” Minister O’Connor said.
“It means more accessible, secure homes for people with disability, and more Queenslanders having a place they can call home.
“Labor created Queensland’s housing crisis by failing to have housing delivery keep pace with population growth — we’re turning things around with record long-term funding, by cutting red tape, and by empowering the community housing sector to get more homes built sooner.”
BHC Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca Oelkers said the Yeronga project would deliver 75 high-quality homes for essential workers and lower-income households.
“These are the aged care providers, hospitality staff, childcare educators, and cleaners who keep our communities going,” she said.
“The 2025–26 State Budget provides the certainty we need to continue building homes like these.
“With $500 million in ongoing annual funding, Community Housing Providers can plan for the long term, scale up delivery, and build more homes where they’re needed most.”
