Largest special school investment in Queensland history
- Budget delivers funding for six new special schools to help meet enrolment demand in Queensland’s fast-growing communities to ensure all children are supported to reach their potential.
- The new special schools will be located in Central Logan (Berrinba), Beenleigh, Moreton Bay South, Springfield-Redbank, Ipswich West and Coomera.
- The investment is part of the record $21.9 billion Education Budget which lays the foundation for a fresh start with more teachers and safer classrooms.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering Queensland’s largest special school investment in history through the 2025-26 Budget to ensure students with higher support needs receive the specialised teaching and learning required for them to thrive.
Six new special schools will help meet increased enrolment demand in South East Queensland and ensure Queensland children are better supported in their learning journey.
The new schools be delivered at Central Logan (Berrinba), Beenleigh, Coomera, Moreton Bay South, Springfield-Redbank, and Ipswich West, with a combined enrolment potential of 800 students.
The $1.09 billion investment – as part of the Education Budget – delivers 15 new schools in Queensland’s fastest-growing communities, including new primary schools in Caloundra South and Ripley Valley, and a new high school in Gracemere.
The Crisafulli Government’s new $100 Back to School Boost will also be available for all students attending Prep to Year 6 to provide cost of living relief for families and assist in the cost of school essentials.
The Back to School Boost will be delivered directly to schools for students and can be used to help cover the costs of books, stationery, devices and uniforms as well as extracurricular activities including sports and the arts.
Premier David Crisafulli said the 2025-26 Budget was about delivering the schools and facilities that young Queenslanders need to achieve their best.
"Every child must get the right start in life," Premier Crisafulli said.
“We want to give parents the ability to choose where their children go to school, and we are delivering new special schools to ensure no Queensland kid is left behind."
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was investing in the right facilities where they’re needed most.
“In the first six months of Government we secured a historic funding deal to fully-fund state schools and now we’re delivering funding to build more Special Schools,” Minister Langbroek said.
“This gives parents the choice to decide which schooling option is best for their child to ensure they reach their potential.
“Delivering these purpose-built special schools empowers students with disabilities to thrive, learn, and succeed in environments designed just for them.”
