Crisafulli Government delivers new Caloundra South school

  • The Crisafulli Government’s first Budget delivers the foundations for a fresh start for Queensland with a new state school to be delivered in Caloundra South.
  • The new primary school will be built to cater for 1,140 students in the Caloundra South Priority Development Area.
  • This is one of several schools publicly announced by the former Labor Government which they never funded or built.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a new state school for Caloundra South in the upcoming State Budget to ensure local children can receive a world-class education close to home.

The Budget sets the foundation for a fresh start with a new primary school being built within the Caloundra South Priority Development Area.

This education precinct will help to ensure Queensland’s state school network has sufficient capacity to meet the needs of our growing communities.

About 1,140 students are expected to attend the school which will open its doors to students in Prep to Year 6 in Term 1 2028.

The former Labor Government announced the school in 2022 but never funded it, breaking promises and deceiving the Caloundra community.

Labor’s gross mismanagement of finances left several new schools, publicly announced by their government, with no funding for construction.

Treasurer David Janetzki said investing in Queensland’s education was an investment in our future.

“This is one of Queensland’s fastest growing regions and we have a responsibility to provide the core services and facilities, such as schools,” Treasurer Janetzki said.

“Delivering world-class educational facilities for Queensland kids right across the state is a huge priority for us and we are committed to delivering that.

“All children are entitled to positive learning environments close to where they live.”

Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was determined to unleash kids’ full potential in the classroom.

“We are getting back to the basics to improve education outcomes – more reading, more writing and better facilities to help children succeed and thrive,” Minister Langbroek said.

“We know the former Labor Government failed to deliver this school and several others, deceiving Queenslanders who made choices on where to live and raise families based on their empty promises.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start after a decade of Labor neglect, and we will build the new Caloundra South school.”

Member for Caloundra Kendall Morton said the new school would service the fastest-growing area on the Sunshine Coast – accounting for 21 percent of all population growth in the local government area.

“The new Caloundra South state school will benefit local families and build a brighter future for the next generation of students in this fast-growing area,” Ms Morton said.

After Labor promised a new school but never built it, I'm proud to deliver this new school for my local community.”

The new Caloundra South school adds to recent announcements by the Crisafulli Government to boost education outcomes by reducing teacher’s red tape by 25 percent to give them more time in the classroom.

The Government is also delivering safer classrooms to ensure all children have access to learning through the $44 million Behavioural Boost and the nation-leading $33 million plan to stamp out bullying.
