The Crisafulli Government has delivered a new surgical specialist outpatients clinic at the Queensland Children’s Hospital as part of its commitment to provide easier access to health services for all Queensland families.
The $4.14 million redevelopment will provide more than 14,000 appointments each year for children and young people with complex gastroenterology conditions and those requiring plastic and reconstructive surgery.
The redesigned space on Level 6 of the hospital includes 13 consultation rooms, a treatment area and a dedicated telehealth suite.
Labor left Queensland in a Health Crisis, due to their failure to properly resource and manage Queensland's health system.
Under the former Labor government, ramping at Queensland hospitals reached the highest in the nation at 44.7%, meaning patient lives were being increasingly put at risk.
The Crisafulli Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan will ensure easier access to the health services and deliver more than 2,600 new hospital beds for Queensland, alongside more investment in a bigger health workforce.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls said the new clinic would help expand specialist care for children and young people across the State.
“We are delivering world-first healthcare to all Queenslanders no matter where they live, and this new outpatients area will make an enormous difference by adding capacity for 14,000 appointments every year,” Minister Nicholls said.
“Importantly, this expanded service has allowed for additional specialist doctors, nurses and frontline administrative staff to be recruited, strengthening the hospital’s ability to meet rising demand for specialist paediatric services.”
Minister Nicholls said this recruitment drive is part of the Crisafulli Government’s pledge to hire an additional 46,000 health workers by 2032, including 34,200 extra clinicians.
“We’re curing Labor’s Health Crisis by creating a pipeline of health workers, including specialist clinicians, to ensure we have a strong workforce well into the future,” Minister Nicholls said.
