New school halls provide world-class training ground for Hervey Bay students
- Crisafulli Government delivers two new multi-purpose halls at Urangan Point State School and Urangan State High School.
- $26.4 million upgrades to educational facilities to help regional Queensland students excel.
- Schools and their communities to benefit from new spaces for sporting events, performances, and gatherings.
The Crisafulli Government is creating new pathways for aspiring Olympians and Paralympians, with the opening of two new multi-purpose halls at Urangan Point State School and Urangan State High School.
A range of sporting, arts and community events can now be held across the new venues, providing more local opportunities and generational infrastructure to the Hervey Bay area.
The more than $26 million investment is part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering world-class educational facilities for children right across the State.
The two new halls feature a multi-purpose court, performing arts stage, and a kitchen for cooking classes.
Students at Urangan State High School will also benefit from two state-of-the-art labs to enhance Health and Physical Education lessons, while the new stage means the school can expand their music excellence program.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the investment opens doors to future education, arts, and sporting opportunities.
"These new halls will help to unlock the potential of aspiring Olympians, Paralympians and performing artists, while also benefitting the broader community," Minister Langbroek said.
“We’re committed to ensuring all Queensland students have access to quality educational facilities, after Labor failed to plan infrastructure for growing communities.
“This is a meaningful investment in the future of our young people.
“I hope in 2032 we celebrate a medalist who may have started their sporting journey on one of these courts.”
Member for Hervey Bay David Lee said the new halls are a wonderful addition to the local community.
“I congratulate both Principals, Tony McCormack at Urangan State High and Sally Rankine at Urangan Point State School on this achievement,” Mr Lee said.
Urangan State High School Principal Tony McCormack said their new multi-purpose hall, named the Sports Centre, has strengthened the school’s community focus by bringing everyone together.
“Holding whole-school assemblies, graduations, awards nights and ANZAC ceremonies on campus is game changing for our school’s culture,” Mr McCormack said.
“We can also host regional sport trials in our new Sports Centre, saving students and families from having to travel out of town.”
