The Crisafulli Government is future-proofing one of the fastest-growing regions in Queensland by delivering a new permanent fire and rescue station for the Greater Springfield communities.
The new station will be crewed by 19 firefighters and five station officers, with increased staffing to enhance response times and ensure the region is specifically equipped to handle emergencies.
It will be located close to major roadways and adjacent to the existing Queensland Ambulance Service facility.
Significant earthworks have been completed and the site is ready for construction to begin.
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy said the Crisafulli Government was backing the brave men and women on the frontline after a decade of Labor’s piecemeal support that left local crews stretched during emergencies.
“This project was delayed for more than four years under Labor, but this Government is committed to getting on with the job and ensuring the region’s fire and rescue firefighter have the vital equipment and facilities to do their job,” Minister Leahy said.
“Queensland’s firies were left underfunded and under resourced under Labor but we are committed to reversing this neglect to ensure they have what they need to keep Queenslanders safe.”
QFD Commissioner Steve Smith said the new station would bolster local operations and significantly strengthen fire and rescue response in Greater Springfield.
“This is a major facility for the future of emergency response in this region,” Commissioner Smith said.
“The crews here will operate 24 hours a day and will work closely with other local stations.
“This site was identified by the department as the best location to meet growing operational needs.
“At this stage, this station’s response area will provide coverage from Redbank down to Greenbank and from South Ripley across to Carole Park.”
