Housing infrastructure fund nails it with applications through the roof

  • Housing sector shows overwhelming support for the State’s landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund (RAF) to deliver more homes for Queenslanders sooner.
  • More than 170 applications for the fund’s first round, totaling $1.79 billion in funding requests to unlock $3.97 billion in new projects.
  • If completed, combined projects would support delivery of more than 158,000 new homes across the State.

The Crisafulli Government is unlocking the supply of more homes for Queenslanders, with the landmark Residential Activation Fund significantly oversubscribed, attracting $1.79 billion in infrastructure funding requests to unlock new housing projects.

In an overwhelming show of support, more than 170 applications have been submitted for the first tranche of funding for the $2 billion fund.

Local governments and landowners are all seeking a share of the $500 million in first-round funding that will help build the trunk and essential infrastructure needed for new housing developments, and ease Labor’s housing crisis.

The fund will prioritise shovel-ready projects, focusing on construction of critical trunk infrastructure needed such as water supply, sewerage, stormwater and roads needed to unlock new residential developments.

The $2 billion RAF is a key pillar of the Crisafulli Government’s Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan and is breaking down the barriers for infill and greenfield developments.

The fund supports one million new Queensland homes by 2044 with 50 per cent of the overall RAF funding to be invested in regional and remote Queensland.

The dream of home ownership had become a nightmare for Queenslanders under the former Labor Government, but thanks to the groundbreaking housing initiative, the Crisafulli Government will helping Queensland pursue their home ownership dreams.

Assessments of the applications are now underway, prioritising those that are ready to start and can address urgent housing needs.

Premier David Crisafulli said the response to the RAF demonstrated strong demand across the State to activate more land.

“This is a massive response and will help get tens of thousands of homes out of the ground quicker and deliver more Queenslanders their dream of home ownership sooner,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“I want the nightmare that is the prospect of a young Queenslander never owning a home to become the great Australian dream again, and these are some of the first steps towards delivering that, and ending Labor’s Housing Crisis.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie said the RAF submissions were now being assessed in a competitive process that would identify the best projects.

“Local government and the housing sector are knocking down the doors to work with us to get more land ready to build,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“The RAF is transforming the housing landscape by overcoming the challenges which have previously blocked housing starts under Labor.

“This is a competitive process and the Crisafulli Government is focused on getting the best projects up and running so more Queenslanders will have new homes sooner.

“Announcements will be made from July 2025 onwards and the department will be working with successful applicants to ensure infrastructure works can begin as quickly as possible.”
