DESTINATION 2045
Sunshine Coast shines in
Destination 2045

  • Sunshine Coast to benefit from 20-year tourism plan Destination 2045.
  • Preparing for influx of visitors for 2032 Games and beyond.
  • Destination 2045 sets the stage for Queensland to become a global leader in ecotourism, a hub for mega events, and a well-connected international destination.

The Sunshine Coast is lapping up the newly unveiled 20-year tourism plan Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future

Destination 2045 is a visionary roadmap to supercharge the State’s tourism industry into a new era of growth, sustainability and global leadership.

From The Wave to Mudjimba Island public moorings, the Sunshine Coast is strapping in for a monumental journey in the lead up to 2032 and beyond.

Destination 2045 is set to deliver the following tourism projects on the Sunshine Coast:

  • Dark Skies: Investigating Dark Sky accreditation in suitable locations on the Sunshine Coast to safeguard our night skies and provide opportunities for visitors to experience the night sky.
  • Improved connectivity: Delivering landmark project The Wavenew Connecting Queensland fund attracting new international flights to the Sunshine Coast, with better intrastate connections.
  • Noosa River jetties: Three jetties will be replaced like-for-like with modern upgrades, while the remaining three will be fully redesigned to ensure they are fit for purpose and long-term durability to support commercial tour operations and to facilitate visitor access to camping and day-use areas from the Cooloola Recreation Area.
  • Growing agritourism: More agritourism experiences like farm stays and paddock-to-plate offerings, helping farmers improve profitability.
  • Boosting drive tourism: Making Queensland famous for multi-stop road trips and journeys, getting more people travelling to the Sunshine Coast.
  • Queensland is home of events: Half of events calendar growth will be in the regions including the Sunshine Coast and growing business events to $2 billion.
  • Mudjimba Island: Installing public moorings around Mudjimba Island to protect the Reef from coral damage caused by boat anchoring.

Destination 2045 aims to more than double the value of visitor expenditure to Queensland’s economy to $84 billion in two decades, while employing 25 per cent more Queenslanders directly.

The plan overturns a decade of failure by Labor on tourism and commits to reverse funding cuts planned under the former Government that would have reduced programs and services.

The plan builds on tourism’s critical role in Queensland’s economy, which currently supports more than 270,000 jobs and generates $115m a day in visitor expenditure. About nine out of 10 tourism operations are small businesses.

Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said Destination 2045 sets a new benchmark for Queensland’s tourism industry.

“As a proud local and the Member for Glass House, I know first-hand the incredible tourism experiences we have to offer the world – from the Mooloolaba to Maleny,” said Minister Powell.

Destination 2045 will ensure the Sunshine Coast is ready to welcome an influx of visitors around 2032 and beyond.
