The Honourable Fiona Simpson

Crisafulli Government grants unite Queenslanders to commemorate Reconciliation Week

  • The Crisafulli Government has provided more than $100,000 to 41 local organisations through the 2025 Celebrating Reconciliation Grants initiative to support commemorative community events.
  • Reconciliation Queensland has received $25,000 in additional funding as a contribution to their milestone 25th anniversary this year.
  • Landmarks including Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium and Brisbane’s Kurilpa and Neville Bonner bridges will light up in the colours of the Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Islander flag.

The Crisafulli Government is supporting Reconciliation Queensland and dozens of community organisations across the State with more than $125,000 in combined funding to celebrate and advance reconciliation during National Reconciliation Week

This significant period for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people begins with National Sorry Day on Monday, May 26. This is followed by National Reconciliation Week commencing on Tuesday, May 27 and finishing with Mabo Day on June 3.

The National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme Bridging Now to Next reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Brisbane’s Kurilpa and Neville Bonner bridges, Queensland Parliament, Suncorp Stadium, and Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville will be aglow in the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags to mark the week.

The Crisafulli Government is supporting 41 community organisations through the Celebrating Reconciliation Grants program, which provides funding to Indigenous associations and corporations, schools, sporting clubs, and local businesses to facilitate reconciliation events to be held during Reconciliation Week.

This year’s Celebrating Reconciliation Grants recipients are spread across the South East corner, Cape York, and throughout Central and Western Queensland.

They include Playgroup Queensland, Surf Life Saving Queensland, AFL Cape York, Hervey Bay Art Society, Kalwun Development Corporation Limited, Emu Park Rugby League, Synapse Australia, and Run for Reconciliation Goondiwindi.

Reconciliation Queensland - a not-for-profit organisation driving the reconciliation movement throughout the state - also received an additional $25,000 to support their 25th anniversary events.

Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Fiona Simpson said the Crisafulli LNP Government is proud to support community-minded organisations making a tangible difference in their regions.

I want to congratulate Reconciliation Queensland on a remarkable 25 years of helping people across the state to unite, educate, and address past wrongs,” Minister Simpson said.

In accordance with the National Reconciliation Week theme, the Crisafulli Government believes we build a bridge to the next by establishing strong foundations, building dignity, and improving the quality of life in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities – no matter where they are located.

“The Crisafulli Government is committed to practical reconciliation by delivering projects, designed in partnership with Indigenous leaders, which improve living standards in our First Australians’ communities and increase access to better healthcare, housing, and education.

Labor’s hollow gestures, empty promises, and waste of taxpayer dollars on lawyers in Brisbane didn’t close the gap of disadvantage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities - they made it bigger.
