The Crisafulli Government has officially opened the new Gold Coast Performance athletics track, which will deliver a world-class facility for Queensland’s sporting stars.

The athletics track features state-of-the-art technology including embedded timing chips and sensors that collect real-time athlete data such as split times, speed, acceleration and stride length.

The SmarTracks system automatically captures athlete performance data, connecting to an app where coaches can instantly analyse progress and pinpoint areas for improvement.

The track is already used by elite athletes, school groups, local athletes and visiting international squads, who can now tailor their training sessions more effectively.

The Crisafulli Government has also started consultation on the ‘What Does 2032 Mean For You?’ strategy, which will help shape the sports legacy on the Gold Coast.

The Discussion Paper will help set Queensland up for success beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games by maximising the legacy benefits.

After more than 1200 days of Games chaos and crisis under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job after unveiling the 2032 Delivery Plan.

Minister for Sport and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said that Queenslanders deserve access to the best facilities in their regions to ensure that the elite and community level of sport could benefit from the legacy of the 2032 Games.

“The new SmarTracks system at the Gold Coast Performance Centre is an example of our commitment to keep Queensland ahead of the pack when it comes to sporting innovation and technolog," said Minister Mander.

“We want the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to be our most successful ever that’s why we are investing in world-class sporting infrastructure to Queensland’s talent pathways for our rising champions and to encourage more people to get active.

"After 1200 days of Games chaos and crisis under the former Labor government, we are delivering for Queenslanders.

“On the road to Brisbane 2032, we want more people active and that starts with investment into every level of sport right across Queensland.

"That's also why we want to hear from Queenslanders on how we can shape the future of sport in this state.

“We encourage everyone to submit to our discussion paper, ‘What Does 2032 Mean for You?’ with their ideas on how we can improve sporting facilities, boost the number of volunteers and get more people playing sport.”

Gold Coast Athletics coach Stacey Taurima said the new track would assist athletes fulfill their potential.

“A lot of those younger developing athletes who aren’t currently at the top of the sport can now utilise the SmarTracks technology to assist them to better understand their event needs,” said Mr Taurima.

“As Brisbane 2032 approaches, this technology is a vital development tool that can be used by coaches who may not have access to the latest and very expensive timing technology.”
