Games On! for Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre

  • State Government partnership to revitalise Roma’s recreational facilities and strengthen the local economy.
  • A legacy project ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to build better infrastructure for rural Queensland.
  • Strengthening regional liveability through collaboration between Government and industry.

The Maranoa region is set to dive into a brighter future as the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre Project officially breaks ground, marking a major milestone in the Crisafulli Government’s drive to deliver better infrastructure for rural and regional communities.

With an investment of $5 million from the Queensland Government, the project highlights the collaboration between the Maranoa Regional Council and private sector to deliver lasting benefits for local communities in the region.

The Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre will feature a 50-metre outdoor heated pool, enabling year-round usage; a 25-metre indoor program pool for lessons and therapy; a vibrant water play area for young families; swim club facilities; and fully accessible amenities to promote inclusivity for all.

This development is a long-term investment in Roma’s liveability and a legacy that aligns with Queensland’s delivery of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Once operational, the centre will provide opportunities for regional competitions and aquatic events, boosting tourism and enhancing Roma’s profile as a destination in regional Queensland.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the project represented the Crisafulli Government’s vision for stronger, more sustainable rural communities.

"The Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of Roma’s community life, fostering health, connection and opportunity,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

“This is more than just an aquatic centre - it’s a symbol of our commitment to improving regional liveability and creating a legacy for future generations as we look towards the 2032 Games.

Partnering with the Maranoa Regional Council, we are delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and strengthens communities.”

Member for Warrego Ann Leahy said the aquatic centre would improve the South West’s liveability and provide a great recreational space for Roma families.

“The Crisafulli LNP Government is proud to work in partnership with councils to deliver vital infrastructure for local communities,” Ms Leahy said.

“Projects like this are all a part of the LNP’s commitment to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.”

Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s potential to transform the community.

“This centre will provide a state-of-the-art facility that our residents can be proud of,” Mayor Taylor said.

“It’s a testament to what can be achieved when governments and industry collaborate, and it will leave an enduring legacy for our region.”
