Personal Hardship Assistance from the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments is now available for eligible residents in Redland, Gold Coast and Logan City Councils, directly impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Support includes a range of grants to assist with the purchase of emergency essentials, the replacement of damaged household items, and income-tested assistance for property structural repairs and the reconnection of essential services.

Residents can check eligibility and apply via www.qld.gov.au/disasterhelp, or by phoning the 24/7 Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council and Southern Downs Regional Councils have also been activated to receive funding for their counter disaster operations and the reconstruction of essential public assets, including emergency repairs to the region’s road network.

These councils join the previously activated councils of Brisbane, Fraser Coast, Gold Coast, Gympie, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, and Sunshine Coast.

All support is provided by the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Jenny McAllister said with more heavy rain expected over the coming days, the Albanese Government is working hand in glove with the Queensland Government through the immediate event and into recovery.

“The assistance activated today will support impacted communities as they begin the recovery process.

“If you need help covering the cost of emergency essentials like food and medicines, or replacing lost essential household contents like white goods, this assistance will provide you with financial support to get back on your feet.

“As more impact data from this event becomes available, we will continue activating appropriate assistance for impacted communities.

“‘The flood risk across South East Queensland is still present so please know your local risk, listen to emergency services, have a plan.”

Premier David Crisafulli said there would be no daylight between response and recovery for communities impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

“Our Emergency Services have been swift in their response to the events of the past week and with this funding we’re giving Queenslanders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred immediate support to get back on their feet,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“Disaster impacts vary from community to community, but our commitment to helping every Queenslander through recovery remains the same.”

Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said this was just the first step in supporting impacted communities.

“The Crisafulli Government will continue to be as responsive as possible to the needs of communities impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” Minister Leahy said.

“With this funding activation we’re giving Queenslanders impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred immediate financial support to get back on their feet.

“As further impacts are identified, we will seek to extend personal hardship assistance to additional localities and continue working closely with all affected SEQ communities until the job is done.”
