Crisafulli Government boosts screen culture events across Queensland 

• 12 screen events and festivals will share in $124,000 to support vibrant events, conferences and workshops across the state.
• Screen events supported through this funding round will reach more than 45,000 Queenslanders.
• Applications are already open for the next round of the Screen Culture Fund and will close on Friday 28 February 2025.

A suite of vibrant screen events and film festivals will reach more than 45,000 Queenslanders, thanks to the Crisafulli Government’s Screen Culture Fund.

The 12 successful recipients will share in $124,000 through the latest grant round.

From the Gold Coast to Yeppoon and Winton to Cairns, these events will showcase a mix of global films and local screen stories through diverse and inclusive programming and cutting-edge digital media.

Events supported in the current round of Screen Culture funding includes film and games festivals, industry conferences and skills development workshops.

The events and festivals will take place between 1 January and 30 June 2025.

Successful recipients include the Very Short Film Festival celebrating Australian stories and contemporary culture and an established favourite – Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival.

Queensland Games Festival also received funding to help promote the rich creativity of our local games development sector.

Applications are now open for the next round of the Screen Culture Fund for events occurring between Tuesday 1 July and Wednesday 31 December 2025. 

Applications close on Friday 28 February 2025, 9am AEST.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the funding would create job opportunities and drive positive economic outcomes across the state.

“The Screen Culture Fund will support 12 individual events, which are true highlights on our year-round calendar of film and industry festivals,” Minister Langbroek said.

“These exciting events and workshops provide opportunities right across the state and help even more Queenslanders engage with the film industry.  

“We’re committed to supporting our talented film professionals to ensure they have enriching careers right here in Queensland.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said the funding helped to ensure communities right across the state could engage with a broad range of storytelling and create talent.   

“We are committed to investing in Queensland’s screen culture sector by supporting festivals and events across the diversity of our state, with a particular focus on Queensland regional and remote events. 

"Last year approximately 90,000 people attended events supported by Screen Queensland, highlighting the demand for industry engagement opportunities and Queensland-made content."
