Sustainable fishing and seafood on the menu this Christmas

Whether it’s wetting a line in one of our many pristine waterways or sampling a wild-caught smorgasbord, Queensland is delivering this Christmas.

This festive season, Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett is encouraging Queenslanders to shop local and make sure Queensland seafood takes pride of place on Christmas tables this festive season.

“Queensland’s aquaculture sector plays a key role in providing choice and variety for consumers, along with confidence that all Queensland seafood is sustainable and responsibly sourced”, Minister Perrett said.

“If you prefer wild-caught seafood this Christmas period, you will be supporting a $354.1 million commercial sector that is one of the most sustainable in the world.

“This year there’s certainly no shortage of prawns to go around!.

“When you buy quality Queensland seafood, you’re supporting good jobs right across the state while eating some of the best fresh seafood in the world.

“There’s nothing better.

“My department is proud to work with an industry that is working very hard to supply quality, sustainable seafood to consumers not only in Queensland, but across the globe.

“Still looking for a Christmas present for that fishing-loving friend or family member? You might be interested in gifting them a Stocked Impoundment Permit;”
