Trade Minister concludes successful Japan and South Korea mission
- Engagement with industry partners across resources, renewables, agriculture and bio and health sectors.
- Visit to World Expo 2025 Osaka site, where Queensland will be showcased from April next year at the Australia Pavilion.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates has completed a successful trade mission shoring up export opportunities and investment in Queensland projects from key markets Japan and South Korea.
Minister Bates met several key industry partners across resources, renewables, agriculture and bio and health sectors as well as the tourism and education.
Key announcements and events included:
- A Taste of Queensland event showcasing Queensland’s world-class produce to 150 buyers and business leaders in Tokyo
- Touring the World Expo 2025 Osaka area where Queensland will play a starring role as a gold sponsor of the Australia Pavilion
- A further $200 million green hydrogen investment into Queensland by Japanese oil giant ENEOS
The Minister participated in more than 25 meetings and engagements across the five-day mission in Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul.
“Demand for Queensland’s products from these two key trading partners is significant, and we’re making sure our regions reap the benefits,” Minister Bates said.
“This trade mission was about making sure key investment partners regard Queensland as a place that’s open for business.
“Japanese and Korean investment in this state creates jobs for Queenslanders and guarantees the long-term success of the Queensland economy.
“I am confident there will be more investment outcomes following these meetings.”
Japan is Queensland's second-largest export destination with $16.9 billion in 12 months to September 2024, primarily driven by coal, LNG, and beef.
Korea is Queensland’s fourth-largest export destination with $14.6 billion in 12 months to September 2024, also led by coal, beef and LNG exports
