Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Anthony Chisholm:
“Queenslanders cop more than their fair share of floods and storms, and the Albanese and Miles Governments are continuing the recovery effort in Gympie, so we’re as prepared as possible for whatever comes our way this summer.
“Devastating flood events, like the one we witnessed in 2022, create serious defects across our regional road network. The ongoing recovery efforts in Gympie demonstrate our commitment to build more resilient roads for Queensland motorists.
“Every repair made is a step towards a complete recovery for the Gympie community, and together with state and local partners, we’re ensuring that the region not only recovers from past floods but emerges more prepared for future emergencies.”
Quotes attributable to Queensland Disaster Recovery Minister Nikki Boyd:
“This $7 million road works program is an important milestone for the Gympie region’s disaster recovery.
“Gympie was one of Queensland’s hardest hit regions for natural disasters during 2021-2022, experiencing record-breaking and repeated flooding.
“These works build in road resilience, so they’re ready for future extreme weather events.
“In partnership with the Federal Government, we’ve invested more than $130 million in DRFA for Gympie’s infrastructure disaster recovery.
“Because the safety and resilience of Queenslanders are Miles Government priorities.”
Quotes attributable to Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig:
“I am immensely proud of the extensive work that has already been done and the ongoing efforts to rebuild the region following the 2022 flood events.
“This latest package of flood repair works, together with other projects under the Building a Resilient Region program, aims to strengthen our region against future disaster events.
“Although substantial headway has been made in restoring our region after the three consecutive floods in 2022, much work remains to be done.
“I want to extend my gratitude to our staff and contractors who consistently go above and beyond to ensure that residents receive the quality roads and infrastructure needed to meet the demands of our growing community.
“I would also like to thank both the Queensland and Australian Governments for their support in funding these essential works.”
