Labor commitment to celebrate Queensland’s vibrant multicultural sector

• A Miles Labor Government will invest an extra $1.5 million over four years towards the Ethnic Communities Council Queensland, if elected in October.

• Builds on a record investment in the multicultural sector by the Miles Labor Government – ensuring the voices of multicultural Queenslanders are heard.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Charis Mullen has today announced a big funding boost from the Miles Labor Government, if elected in October.

An additional $1.5 million will be injected into the multicultural sector over four years, funded from additional borrowings.

If elected, the boost will be provided directly to Queensland’s peak multicultural organisation – the Ethnic Communities Council Queensland.

Established in 1976, Ethnic Communities Council Queensland work with and represent the needs and goals of multicultural communities to promote a socially cohesive, equitable, respectful and multicultural Queensland.

The investment builds on more than $133,000 in annual funding provided to the council, which would take the Labor Government’s commitment to half a million each year.

The government has a proud record of supporting Multicultural Queenslanders – something set to continue if elected in October.

In contrast, when the LNP were last in government they slashed Multicultural Affairs Queensland funding by more than 40 per cent, representing a cut of $9.6 million. This included a cut of more than $1.2 million to grants and support to Multicultural Queenslanders and cuts to important ECCQ programs.
